What Is a Double Flap Valve?
The LVRUI double flap valve is an airlock discharge valve used beneath silos, hoppers, dust collectors and process equipment handling dry powders or small granular materials. Also called a double dump valve or double flap airlock valve, it uses two vertically arranged flaps that open and close in sequence. Counterweight Double Flap Valve
A counterweight design uses material weight and an adjustable balancing mechanism to operate the flaps.
It is suitable for simple gravity-discharge applications where the material flow is stable and complex electrical control is not required.
Pneumatic Double Flap Valve
Pneumatic cylinders operate the upper and lower flaps according to a preset sequence.
This configuration provides adjustable cycle timing and can be connected to solenoid valves, limit switches and the plant control system.
Electric Double Flap Valve
An electric motor, reducer and mechanical linkage control the alternating flap movement.
Motorized double flap valves are suitable where compressed air is unavailable or where electric operation is preferred for the plant control arrangement.

The valve should normally be installed vertically so that material can discharge by gravity.

The pressure difference is especially important. The valve structure and sealing arrangement must be selected according to the actual upstream and downstream operating conditions.
How Does a Double Flap Valve Work?
A double flap valve contains an upper flap, an intermediate chamber and a lower flap. The two flaps must not remain open at the same time.
The operating sequence is:
✅ The lower flap remains closed while the upper flap opens.
✅ Material enters the intermediate chamber.
✅ The upper flap closes and isolates the inlet.
✅ The lower flap opens and releases the material.
✅ The lower flap closes before the next cycle begins.
This repeated cycle allows material to pass through the valve while limiting direct airflow between the upstream and downstream sides.
Depending on the design, flap movement can be controlled by counterweights, pneumatic cylinders or an electric motor and linkage mechanism. Limit switches and PLC interlocks can be added when flap-position feedback or automatic sequencing is required.
