What Is a U-Type Screw Conveyor?
A U type screw conveyor moves dry bulk material through a U-shaped steel trough by means of a rotating helical screw. Typical Applications
U type screw conveyors are mainly used for horizontal or low-incline transfer between silos, hoppers, dust collectors, mixers and packing equipment.

This design is best suited to short-distance conveying where maintenance access is important. A tubular screw conveyor may be preferable for compact routing with a continuous round casing, while vertical lifting normally requires a bucket elevator.

Suitable Materials and Operating Limits
Common materials include cement, fly ash, lime powder, mineral powder, gypsum, dry mortar ingredients, collected dust and other free-flowing dry powders or small granules.
Wet, sticky, fibrous or strongly compacting materials require separate evaluation because they can build up around the shaft, reduce capacity and increase drive load. Abrasive, high-temperature or combustible materials may require special flights, liners, bearings, seals or safety provisions.
The conveyor is normally installed horizontally or at a low inclination. As the angle increases, material fallback can reduce capacity and raise power demand. Applications approaching 20° must be recalculated and confirmed according to the material and screw design.

How Does a U Type Screw Conveyor Work?
Material enters through one or more inlets and falls into the trough. The gear motor rotates the screw shaft, and the helical flights push the material toward the discharge outlet.
Performance depends on screw diameter, pitch, speed, filling level, installation angle, inlet loading and material properties. Uncontrolled feeding can overload the screw, compact powder inside the trough or cause buildup near the outlet.
The removable covers allow internal inspection without dismantling the entire casing. Covers and drive guards must remain secured during operation, and the machine must be stopped and isolated before cleaning or maintenance.
