Motorized Flow Control Gate Valve for Cement Silos & Bulk Powder Handling

What Is a Motorized Flow Control Gate Valve?

A motorized flow control gate valve is an electrically actuated discharge valve used to adjust the effective opening beneath a silo, hopper or bulk powder handling system. By changing the valve opening, it provides controlled feeding of cement, fly ash, raw meal, lime powder and other compatible dry powders to downstream equipment such as air slide conveyors, screw conveyors, weighing systems or bulk loaders. The electric actuator supports local, remote or PLC-based operation with intermediate opening positions where required. The valve regulates the discharge opening but does not measure material mass flow by itself.

Features

Controlled Electric Actuation
Electric actuator enables adjustable opening control and stable gate positioning for powder discharge.
Reliable Sealing Design
Helps reduce powder leakage during operation.
Local, Remote or PLC Control
Supports local and remote operation, with optional limit switches and position feedback.
Heavy-Duty Construction
Suitable for continuous operation in cement and dry bulk powder handling systems.
Adjustable Intermediate Positions
Intermediate opening positions allow the discharge opening to be adjusted according to downstream process requirements.

Applications

Motorized flow control gate valves are commonly used for:
✅ Cement and fly ash silo discharge
✅ Feeding air slide conveyors and screw conveyors
✅ Controlled feeding to weighing and batching systems
✅ Cement bulk loader feeding points
✅ Limestone and mineral powder transfer
✅ PLC-controlled dry bulk powder handling systems

Motorized flow control gate valves can also be integrated into a complete Cement Silo Discharge System together with aeration, conveying and downstream loading equipment.

How Does a Motorized Flow Control Gate Valve Work?

A motorized flow control gate valve uses an electric actuator and transmission mechanism to adjust the internal flow-control element, changing the effective discharge opening between the silo or hopper and the downstream equipment.

When the actuator receives a signal from the local control system or PLC:
✅ The electric actuator drives the transmission mechanism
✅ The flow-control element moves to the required opening position
✅ Full-open, closed or intermediate positions can be selected according to the process requirement
✅ Changing the effective opening adjusts the amount of powder entering the downstream equipment
✅ Controlled opening helps reduce sudden material surges and supports more stable downstream feeding

The valve controls the discharge opening rather than directly measuring material mass flow. Actual throughput also depends on material properties, silo head, aeration condition and downstream equipment.

Motorized Flow Control Gate Valve FAQs

What is a motorized flow control gate valve used for?

A motorized flow control gate valve is used to adjust powder discharge from silos, hoppers and bins. It is commonly applied to cement, fly ash, raw meal, lime powder and other compatible dry powders where adjustable electric operation and remote control are required.

What is the difference between a motorized and pneumatic flow control gate?

A motorized flow control gate uses an electric actuator, while a pneumatic flow control gate uses compressed air. Both can be configured for automated operation, but the preferred drive depends on available utilities, required response, operating frequency and opening-control requirements.

Can a motorized flow control gate valve be integrated with a PLC?

Yes. Depending on the selected actuator and control configuration, the valve can support remote operation, limit switches, position feedback and PLC-based opening control.

What materials can a motorized flow control gate handle?

It is mainly used for compatible dry powders such as cement, fly ash, raw meal, lime powder, limestone powder and mineral powder. Wet, sticky, highly cohesive or oversized lumpy materials require separate evaluation.

Can a motorized flow control gate valve be installed before an air slide conveyor?

Yes. It can be installed upstream of an air slide conveyor to control the amount of cement or other dry powder entering the conveying line and help reduce sudden feeding surges.

What information is required for selection and quotation?

Please provide the material name, bulk density, silo or hopper outlet dimensions, required capacity, material temperature, downstream equipment, power supply and control requirements.
